Industry News
During the past year, our industry along with many others has gone through some significant changes in the way we do our day-to-day jobs. Working remotely has for many of us become the new normal. It is something popular with employees, who appreciate the new work/life balance, and employers, who appreciate the lower costs of maintaining sometimes expensive office space and systems. As we slowly emerge from lockdown, will it remain the default way of business? Or will the legacy workflows reassert themselves once more? Is remote work here to stay? Michael Thielen, VP of Radio Production, has been evaluating “Remote radio production in pandemic times” with IABM TV’s Ben Dales.

Our VP of Newsroom Solutions, Michael Pfitzner, wrote an informative piece for The IABM last year on the way our web-based workflows support remote working and how we are in multiple discussions with broadcasters worldwide on how to future-proof their newsrooms and broadcast playout.
“We are seeing smaller production sites becoming much more central to many organizations as a result, and at some point, in the future, the physical nature of the newsroom or studio as we know it of a contiguous space dedicated to a sole task might end up disappearing too.”
Corus® Entertainment Inc., one of the largest broadcasters in Canada, has been relying on OpenMedia for several years to drive efficiencies in the back end of its Global News operations, which can be a challenging task due to the sheer size of the country it serves and the multiple locations it has to operate in.
The innovative solution optimizes NDR’s new studio as a broadcast automation-supported control room allowing to offload monotonous and repetitive tasks to free up valuable editorial time and reducing the chance of error, especially when it comes to last-minute edits on fast-moving stories.
Connecting all ARD Radio Stations via the newly launched weConnect project
weConnect, a joint venture between ARD, CGI, the IRT, and other partners, enables content exchange and switching of audio lines between the ARD broadcasting stations.
IBC2021, Amsterdam, 10-13 September - Hall 1 Stand C18
NAB 2021, Las Vegas, 9-13 October - Central Hall, C6136
As of now, we are planning to attend and exhibit at both shows. However, the global situation remains fluid and we do not yet know whether the ongoing pandemic will allow them to go ahead. IBC has already established Plan B fallback dates of 3-6 December, with promises of an announcement in June.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Our CSR 2020 report shares progress in advancing key priorities: people, communities, and climate. We are enormously proud of some of the achievements we have made as a company over recent years, especially during the Covid crisis, and are looking forward to contributing fully to some ambitious new targets. These include our recent commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.
