Salesforce recently announced the new and exciting UI called “Lightning”. Modeled after the Salesforce1 mobile app, Lightning offers a sleeker,
more streamlined interface for end users that can be accessed from any device.
Some of the best features:
Customizable Dashboards that eliminate the restrictions of the standard 3 column dashboard we’re all used to. Now admins and users can simply drag to expand or customize the size, shape, and layout of all of their dashboard components to maximize space and improve the overall look and feel.
Opportunity Board which will allow you to not only view your opportunities on virtual index cards, but also to drag and drop them within the board to move from stage to stage quickly and efficiently.
Home Page Customization that lets you get the most important information front and center without being confined to a standard layout and fixed set of components.
A full demo of the new features can be found here – but it’s also important to review some of the things Lightning is not compatible with so that YOU can make the right decision about turning it on for your org.
When Lightning may NOT be right for you:
If your org is currently using any of the following functionality then you may not be ready for the big switch*:
- Person Accounts
- Forecasting
- Territory Management
- Inline Editing
- Communities
- Quotes
- Campaigns
* Using Lightning with any of the unsupported features will just force the system to revert back to the Salesforce Classic interface automatically. Many of these objects are on the Lightning roadmap and can be expected in upcoming releases.
The most important thing to remember about the Lightning Experience is that individual users will have the option of turning it on and off themselves! So if you’re an admin for an org that uses one of the features above, feel free to turn it on so users can decide what works best for them.
Not sure? We offer assistance on Lightning Experience readiness and would be happy to help!
